  Aspyr Media Inc. Jayce mac os. on Wednesday announced plans to publish Space Colony for the Macintosh. In fact, Aspyr is offering a new Web page to provide gamers with some basic details about the title's development.

  Space Colony is a strategy game in which you have to manage a futuristic colony in space while also managing the relationships between the colonists themselves. It's been likened to another game Aspyr brought to the Mac — The Sims — altough there's a greater emphasis on resource management and technology development, as you might expect from a game with this pedigree.

  Originally published for the PC by Gathering, Space Colony was developed by FireFly Studios, the same game developer that created Stronghold (published for the Mac by MacSoft). Firefly Studios comprises some of the same creative talent that developed Sierra's classic Caesar III.

  The Mac game's conversion is being handled by a developer called Trihedron. This is, to MacCentral's knowledge, Trihedron's first project with Aspyr. Trihedron's principal is Nate Trost, a game conversion developer with loads of experience whose past projects include the Mac conversion of Activision/id Software's Quake II and Logicware's Tempest 2000. Aspyr noted that the game is at its Alpha development milestone; it is anticipated for a May release.

  Preliminary system requirements for Space Colony call for Mac OS X v10.2.8 or later; G3/700MHz or faster; 256MB RAM; 1GB of hard disk space and 4x CD-ROM. Space Colony will cost US$29.99 and has been rated T for Teen by the ESRB. Pre-orders are now being accepted at Aspyr's e-store.
